The winner will take his place among Europe’s best teams, while the loosing side will play in Europa League. Serbian football fans are very eager to his their side winning, as defeat by the Swiss on World Cup in Russia left a bitter taste.

Fans are mostly optimistic about Red Star chances against Young Boys, as team played very well in last two games in Belgrade and Copenhagen. Serbian team won in Denmark only after 11 series of penalties, but generally left a good impression. Betting sites give a slight edge to Young Boys, but most observers say two teams are roughly equal. Red Star already played once against Young Boys in Champions League qualifying match, 15 years ago, and was victorious.

Possible rivals in Champions League

VAR technology (video assistant referee) will be installed in Rajko Mitić stadium in Belgrade for the second match on August 27th, courtesy of UEFA. If Red Star goes trough to take its place in Champions league, the system will stay in Belgrade, but it is not obligatory in Europa League, so it will be removed if Red Star does not advance. Together with the duel between Red Star and Young Boys, following matches will decide further participants in Champions League: LASK – Brugge, APOEL – Ajax, Cluj – Slavia, Olympiacos – Krasnodar and Dinamo – Rosenborg. Possibility of playing with Dinamo is especially intriguing.
