Ready for the Belgrade marathon?

Belgrade marathon, a sport event entering it’s forth decade, is definitely the biggest sporting event in the city but also the biggest gathering any type in Belgrade, second only to New Year’s concerts. The date for this year is April 21st, with registration open until April 10th.

In the recent years, the number of runners coming to Belgrade for the marathon has increased 30%, positioning Belgrade marathon high on the list of most sought-after marathons in Eastern Europe, with a great spring date and long, flat track with only one lap. Runners from over 60 countries come to Belgrade each year, which led to the establishment of a second race in the autumn – Belgrade half-marathon.

Most of Belgrade’s residents are waiting for the marathon so they could run 5km Fun run. This run is known for it’s cheerful atmosphere and it is the opportunity for families to go out and run with tens of thousands of other people, have fun and stroll trough the city after the race, also watching the marathon for some time. Anyone can run and there is no registration. Race starts at 10.15 in front of the Parliament building. The route goes trough Boulevard of King Alexander to Slavija square and back to Terazije square.

Half-marathon is a unique race, as it is in the same time a full competitive discipline and a chance for more active casual runners to check their form. These are the reasons why so many people are interested in half-marathon, a race that attracts more than 5000 participants each year, with a medal for all of those who finish the race. The start is in the same spot as the start of full marathon, in Boulevard of King Alexander. The route than goes to Slavija square and Gavrila Principa street to New Belgrade and after following Sava river for some time back to old city, while the 42km marathon route is going to Zemun after the section in New Belgrade and only than back to city center, where race ends.

If you are coming to 31st Belgrade marathon, either as a participant or as spectator, there is no better accommodation than the one offered by Sky Apartments. Belgrade marathon is very attractive event for spectators, as all the city center is closed for traffic and there is live music on several locations.
