Belgrade summer festival-BELEF 2017

Under the slogan „Summer of Culture“ from June 23 to July 23, Belgrade Summer Festival – BELEF 2017 will be organized under the auspices of the City of Belgrade. This event is held for the 26th time in the Serbian capital and in the right way reflects the spirit of Belgrade.

A rich program has been announced, with a never-increasing number of cultural events. BELEF 2017 will be special after the appearance of Bajaga and Instructor, Sanja Ilic and Balkanika group, and guests from India will perform with several programs. Artistic director of the festival, Aleksandar Ilic, invited the citizens to spend part of the summer at BELEF and announced a varied program. He expressed satisfaction that after a long time the artistic play, performance, as well as a large number of exhibitions will return to the festival. He also added that the program will take place in several locations, such as the SKC, the National Theater and the House of Legacies. The Belgrade Summer Festival is a manifestation that during the summer aims to produce and present top artistic disciplines and in this way animates Belgraders and their guests.

At the 26th BELEF Festival, visitors will be able to enjoy theater performances, exhibitions, and concerts of classical music, while for the youngest the performances and workshops are prepared. A rich program, with a record number of cultural events, will feature this year’s BELEF with guests from India. The Belgrade Summer Festival combines three art areas: theater (theater and artistic), visual arts (video, art, installations, performances and prints) and music.

It is held at Kalemegdan, Ada Ciganlija, Belgrade streets and squares, theaters and other halls in the city during July and August. In 1976, we had the first attempts to organize cultural programs in Belgrade outside the main art season during the summer months. The program was based mostly on concerts of classical music of foreign guests. From 1986 to 1991, the Belgrade summer, the forerunner of BELEF, was held, during which numerous theater performances, concerts and other open-air programs were held. Since 1991, then Belgrade summer is also an official manifestation of the city of Belgrade. The next BELEF was held under this name next year. The creator is Mr. Nebojsa Bogunovic, then Secretary General of the Festival.

In order to get the form it has today, the Belgrade Summer Festival has grown and expanded year by year, changing organizers, complementing the programs and locations where this program takes place. BELEF Center as a city cultural institution is established in 2004, thus forming a Belgrade institutional festival, formally institutionalized, in an organizational sense.

For some concerts and performances, the entrance will be free. Tickets for all the contents at the BELEF 2017, for which there is no free entrance, can be purchased at the BELEF information desk in the garden of the SKC, as well as in the tourist organization of Belgrade.
